Retro Roly-Poly Tumbler Doll Yellow M

Those enormous blue eyes, the tiny red mouth and the perfectly painted eyelashes. There's a wonderfully peculiar charm to these traditional Polish roly-poly babies. They look as though they've been sitting in the window of an old-fashioned toy shop for the past sixty years, patiently waiting for someone to take them home.

This one comes in the cheeriest shade of sunshine yellow, with two little white buttons, round white hands and a scalloped bonnet framing that extraordinary face. The glossy finish and slightly bewildered expression are exactly what make these dolls so appealing.

Known as a Nevalyashka, this classic tumbler toy has a weighted, rounded base that means it simply won't stay knocked over. Give it a gentle push and it rocks from side to side before returning to an upright position, ready to do it all over again.

Made in Poland, where these traditional wobbling dolls have been enjoyed for generations, it's a lovely example of the sort of toy that needs no batteries or complicated instructions. Just a little curiosity and a gentle nudge.

A wonderful gift for small children, or for anyone with a fondness for the more unusual treasures of vintage toy shops.
