Dense, spiced and dusted in dark cocoa, this Chocolate Panforte is Seggiano’s richer take on the traditional sweet from Siena.
Handmade by a family bakery in the Siena province, it follows the old Tuscan method: local honey warmed with cacao and spice, folded through toasted almonds and candied citrus peel, then pressed into its distinctive low, compact round. The edible wafer base — notably made without palm oil — keeps everything neatly contained, while a final coating of cocoa powder adds a deep, bittersweet finish.
The texture is firm and sliceable rather than cake-like, with concentrated flavour in every piece. Honeyed sweetness, gentle heat from mixed spices, chew from the fruit and crunch from the nuts — all grounded by that dark chocolate note.
It’s excellent cut into small wedges and served with espresso, or offered at the end of a meal when something rich but not oversized feels right. Intense, traditional and beautifully balanced.
A classic Tuscan speciality, given a darker edge.
Material: ALMONDS 30%, sugar, candied melon 16,5% (melon peel, glucose and fructose syrup, sugar, acidity regulator: citric acid), candied citrus (citrus peel, glucose and fructose syrup, sugar, acidity regulator: citric acid), WHEAT flour, honey, cocoa powder 1,1%, spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, mace, coriander), starch paper (potato starch, sunflower oil). Prepared in an environment where eggs, soya, milk and nuts are handled.
Care: Store in a cool, dry place. Once opened reseal to maintain freshness.
