Carousel by Toys by People is built around one of the main things babies seem to love most: dropping objects into holes and then immediately trying to get them back out again.

The centre section spins as the pieces move through it, which somehow makes the whole thing feel endlessly fascinating without actually doing very much at all. Babies can post the rattling shapes through the top, rotate the middle with their hands, watch the objects travel down inside, then tip everything back out and start again. Over and over and over again.

The objects themselves are really thoughtfully done too. One wobbles, another rattles softly, another feels smooth and weighty in the hand. The translucent colours catch the light beautifully, and the shapes are just unusual enough to make babies properly curious about them.

It’s one of those toys that feels busy without becoming overstimulating. Quiet, repetitive, satisfying play that babies tend to get completely absorbed in — and aesthetically, genuinely nice to have sitting in your living room afterwards.
