Sourdough Starter Christmas Ornament

Some people have pets. Other people have a jar of fermenting flour that needs feeding twice a day.

Yup in de Boom has immortalised the sourdough starter in Christmas decoration form, and it's a rather wonderful tribute to the most demanding ingredient in the kitchen.

The little glass jar is filled with a wonderfully realistic-looking bubbly starter, complete with a handwritten-style label, orange and white gingham fabric lid and a tiny elastic band holding everything in place. There's even a gold hanging cord, because apparently your sourdough deserves a place on the Christmas tree too.

It's a particularly good gift for the friend who names their starter, plans weekends around proving dough and has strong opinions about hydration percentages. Or anyone who spent lockdown making bread and never quite stopped.

Presented in a blue and ochre checked gift box, this is a brilliant little Christmas present for home bakers, bread enthusiasts and anyone whose kitchen contains a living thing they're not entirely sure they can leave alone for the weekend.
