Heart Horse Square Safety Matches

This one is ridiculously lovely.

Archivist’s Heart Horse square matchbox is illustrated by Enikő, with a girl and her horse standing nose to nose underneath a sky scattered with stars. It’s such a simple little moment, but there’s something very sweet about the two of them quietly facing each other. The slightly folkloric drawing style stops it becoming remotely saccharine.

Inside the oversized square box are 125 safety matches, ready for candles, fires and all the practical match-related business. But, as with all the Archivist square boxes, the packaging is a very large part of why you’d want it. The illustration turns an otherwise ordinary household object into something you can leave sitting out with your candles, books and other favourite bits.

It would also make a particularly good present for a horse person — much nicer than most things specifically designed for horse people, frankly.

And once you’ve worked your way through all 125 matches, the box is far too beautiful to disappear into the recycling.
