A traditional Tuscan cake with a rather unexpected twist. Marabissi's Torta di Siena combines sweet cherries with the warmth of chilli, giving this Italian speciality a little kick.
Rich, dense and full of flavour, it brings together the sweetness of cherries and the gentle heat of peperoncino. The chilli adds a warming finish rather than overwhelming the fruit, making it an interesting alternative to a traditional Italian fruitcake.
Made by Marabissi, a Tuscan confectioner established in 1948, this is the sort of thing to bring out after dinner with an espresso or serve in small slices alongside a cheese board. Particularly good for anyone who likes a sweet treat with a bit of heat.
The beautiful cream and red packaging is unmistakably Italian, and makes it a lovely little addition to a Christmas food hamper or a gift for someone who enjoys discovering something different.
