Retro Roly-Poly Doll Blue M

Slightly creepy, utterly charming. There's something about these old-fashioned roly-poly babies that makes them impossible to resist. Perhaps it's the enormous blue eyes that seem to follow you around the room, the tiny red lips or that wonderfully peculiar expression.

This traditional Polish tumbler doll comes dressed in brilliant blue, with two little white buttons, round white hands and a scalloped bonnet framing its rather extraordinary face. It looks like something you'd find in a toy shop in the 1960s, and that's exactly why we like it.

Known as a Nevalyashka, the doll has a weighted, rounded base that means it simply won't stay knocked over. Give it a push and it rocks from side to side before righting itself again. A simple mechanism that's been entertaining children for generations.

Made in Poland, these retro wobbling babies are a lovely reminder of a time when toys could be a little strange, a little unsettling and still completely delightful. Just as appealing to collectors of vintage-inspired toys as they are to children.

Not everything needs to be conventionally cute.
