Kurt Cobain as a baby rattle is exactly the sort of thing that makes a standard new-baby gift suddenly much more interesting. Tambour Battant’s Kurt Rattle turns the Nirvana frontman into a brilliantly wonky little soft toy, complete with striped tee, patched jeans, sunglasses and, naturally, his guitar.

It’s illustrated rather than overly polished, which suits Kurt perfectly, and there are loads of tiny details to spot – right down to the smiley face on the guitar. At approximately 20cm tall, he’s a good size for little hands, with the rattle tucked inside.

And while the subject matter might be decidedly rock ’n’ roll, the actual making of it is reassuringly baby-friendly. It’s made in Tambour Battant’s workshop in the south of France using GOTS-certified organic cotton, is machine washable and has been tested and certified to CE 0+ toy standards. Suitable from birth to 36 months.

A genuinely excellent present for babies whose parents would rather listen to Nirvana than nursery rhymes.
