Mini Rodini Chess Check Knitted Balaclava

I have a bit of a thing for a balaclava that doesn't look overly outdoorsy, and this is exactly that.

The black and caramel checkerboard gives it a proper graphic feel. It's bold, but because the colours are so warm it doesn't feel harsh. In fact, I'd argue it's easier to wear than a plain black hat because it lifts a winter coat instead of disappearing into it.

The shape is what really sells it though. It sits neatly around the face and extends down over the neck, so there aren't those annoying gaps where cold air always seems to find its way in. No scarves slipping off, no hats riding up, just one piece that stays put while they're running around.

I'd probably pair it with a simple chocolate, camel or black coat and let the checks do all the work. It doesn't need anything else competing with it.

Mini Rodini has a knack for making practical pieces feel genuinely desirable, and this is a good example. It keeps everything you'd want from a winter balaclava, but looks like something you'd choose because you love it rather than because the weather says you have to.
