Blue Black Brown Block Birthday Greeting Card

A birthday card for people who don't need their birthday card to shout.

A neat block of checks in powder blue, brown, cream and black sits across the top, with a tiny “happy birthday” underneath and plenty of lovely empty space below. It’s simple, but the slightly unexpected colour combination stops it feeling plain.

There’s a definite retro feel to the check — a little bit old tablecloth, a little bit 1970s shirt — paired with clean typography that brings it firmly back into the present. No candles, no balloons, no age-related insults. Just a really good birthday card.

It’s also brilliantly non-specific, which makes it one of those useful cards that works for almost anyone: friends, dads, brothers, partners, teenagers, colleagues or the person whose birthday you remembered but whose taste in birthday cards remains a complete mystery.

Keep one in the drawer. Future you will be pleased.
