HA KO Paper Incense - Spicy Jasmine

Spicy Jasmine has a bit more attitude than your usual floral incense. Jasmine is rich and heady anyway, but here it’s given a spicier edge that makes it feel darker and more interesting. Less pretty bouquet, more late-night jasmine climbing up a wall somewhere very warm.

HA KO is Japanese paper incense made by one of Japan’s oldest incense makers, and the whole thing is rather beautiful. Each piece is shaped like a delicate leaf, so even before you burn it, it feels like a tiny object rather than simply a stick of incense. This one comes individually packaged, which also makes it a very good introduction to HA KO if you’ve never tried it before.

You don’t actually have to burn it at all. Leave the leaf out and it works as a subtle potpourri, gradually releasing its fragrance for up to three months. Or light the tip, blow out the flame and allow it to smoulder for around 5–7 minutes, releasing the fragrance while helping to cleanse and deodorise the room.

If burning, place on a HA KO felt burner mat or another suitable heat-resistant incense surface, away from draughts and anything flammable, and never leave unattended. Keep out of direct sunlight to help prevent discolouration.
