Brigitte Tanaka Cactus Florist Bag

Brigitte Tanaka turns the humble florist carrier into something you’ll want to use long after the flowers have gone. The Cactus Florist Bag is made from sheer white organza, embroidered with a wonderfully spiky green cactus bursting out of its paper sleeve, complete with bright red flowers and oversized CACTUS lettering.

Look closer and the detail is beautiful. Hundreds of tiny black stitches create the cactus spines, different greens give the plant its shape, and the almost invisible embroidered florist’s wrap makes it appear to be sitting inside the bag. It’s funny, delicate and surprisingly convincing.

Part of Brigitte Tanaka’s ongoing reworking of the disposable plastic carrier, it takes something designed to be used once and recreates it in intricate embroidery as something to keep.

Light, translucent and far sturdier than it looks, use it as an everyday tote, take it to the flower market, or give it to the person whose house is slowly being taken over by plants.
